It’s cold outside. Where’s your jacket?

I’m kinda bored at this point, wish I could go out and do something different for a change. Went to see Matrix Revolutions with Sketkar and a couple of other friends last Wednesday. Lots of people who saw it earlier said it sucked, so I wasn’t quite holding my breath. That was probably a good thing, because I certainly enjoyed the movie. Perhaps that’s the problem with a lot of people — they’re so busy trying to figure out what’s wrong with the movie that they can’t even enjoy a good movie when they see one. I mean, compared with the barrage of borish nonsense Hollywood spews forth these days, it’s good to have movies like the Matrix series that actually stimulate you intellectually while entertaining you at the same time. Yeah, I agree Keanu’s acting scarcely exceeds that of a brainless droid. And yeah, there were a few loose ends, and some things not fully explained (at least not the way one expected). The battles rocked though … I thoroughly enjoyed them, and the ending did make a lot of sense…in fact, I don’t see how any other ending would have been reasonable. This movie was definitely worth watching (especially on an IMAX screen … that rocked).

I’ve been taking a lot of interest in freedesktop.org lately. Enlightenment 0.16.6 has just been released, and the big new thing is support for the EWMH specifications at freedesktop.org. I recently did some implementation of EWMH window state stuff in Ecore (which has also been garnering my attention of late), and right now I’m focusing on doing X Selections and Xdnd. One of the really cool things happening on fd.o right now is that Keith Packard has been working on new X extensions (including a new XDAMAGE extension) that provide support for a compositing manager. One side effect of that is that suddenly 32bit ARGB visuals are not that far off, and we can actually begin to do window transparency, drop shadows and other such effects without the need for fake transparency hacks. Can’t wait to see this one materialize.
